ETG Sustainable Coffee
In Uganda, ETG is leading operations from Namanve warehouse in Kampala, overseeing several processing and warehouse units in Uganda that process coffee and warehouses inputs.
ETG’s responsible sourcing program for coffee has grown substantially over the past three years, currently covering over 20,000 farmers. Dedicated certified supply chains have been established, various donor and client projects have successfully kicked off and the first learnings have been gathered and processed. The Coffee Sustainability team in Uganda is well established and ready for expansion.
The role
Leopard Recruitment and ETG are looking for a Project Officer – Agronomy to join their Sustainable Coffee Uganda team in Kampala.
As Project Officer – Agronomy you are responsible for designing, implementing and monitoring the Coffee Agronomy projects including innovative R&D projects such as Biochar. You will be closely working with the Field Officers – Agronomy who are based in the coffee sourcing areas. The role is Kampala based, but with frequent visits to the coffee sourcing areas to implement and monitor projects or conduct farmer training

Key responsibilities
- Planning, implementing, monitoring and executing agronomy projects such as shade tree distribution, nursery establishment, group and individual farmer trainings.
- Designing, implementing and monitoring of innovative R&D trials for e.g. Agroforestry plots, biochar projects and other agronomy related innovations
- Manage agronomy field teams with implementation, monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Develop and calculate impact of new agronomy related project proposals for donor and client projects.
- Execute carbon calculations for ETGs coffee supply chains in Uganda.
- Work closely with project partners and supply chain actors to successfully implement projects for ETGs farmers.
Candidate profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Environmental Science or another related field.
- 5+ year of experience with setting up R&D trials for similar projects such as fertilizer R&D, crop yield R&D, soil improvement R&D, etc.
- 5+ year of experience with managing field teams for project execution and monitoring
- Deep understanding of plant science, soil health and pest control method.
- Experience with project proposal writing, budgeting and reporting.
- Experience with reporting to different stakeholders such as clients, partners and internal management.
- Experience with digital data collection tools, data quality checking & analysis.
- Good communicator able to work in a multicultural context
- Fluent in English and Lugana, other local languages are a plus.
- Experience and network in coffee sector in Uganda is a plus.
