Our client
AQ Roses PLC operates large-scale greenhouse farms in Ethiopia (Ziway and Debre Zeit), producing premium roses and alstroemeria for international markets. The flowers are marketed through the Dutch sales company Rosa Plaza B.V., with headquarters in the Netherlands.
The farms operate with dedicated teams on site. Crop performance is monitored through scouting, laboratory analysis and digital monitoring systems to support practical cultivation decisions and continuous improvement of the crop. AQ Roses is looking for a Cultivation Manager who will take ownership of the technical growing strategy across both farms.
The role
As Cultivation Manager you are responsible for the technical cultivation across both Ethiopian farms. The position is purely technical in nature and centers on plant health, growing conditions and agronomic performance.
You work closely with the Country Manager and senior production managers in Ethiopia and align with the management team in the Netherlands. A senior grower will retire in the coming period, allowing for a structured transition and knowledge transfer.
This is a hands-on role requiring initiative, analytical thinking and a systematic way of working.

Key responsibilities
- Own the technical cultivation strategy across both farms
- Analyze crop performance, plant health and disease pressure
- Translate scouting data and laboratory analyses into practical agronomic actions
- Develop preventive plant health strategies and improve crop resilience
- Optimize irrigation, nutrition and climate approaches
- Improve crop protection efficiency by reducing routine spraying and implementing targeted interventions in infected areas. Standardize growing practices across varieties and locations
- Evaluate and systematically test treatments and crop protection products
- Improve monitoring, reporting and agronomic consistency by working data driven
- Support operational teams with technical expertise while remaining cultivation-focused
- Contribute to long-term crop quality, reliability and yield predictability
- Interpret recommendations from external consultants and laboratoriesand translate them into practical cultivation actions.
Candidate profile
We are looking for a technically strong cultivation professional with a proven track record in greenhouse growing and agronomy. You combine hands-on crop expertise with a structured and analytical way of working.
You take ownership and proactively identify improvements. You work systematically rather than reactively and use data to support decisions and improve predictability. You are comfortable working in a remote production environment and understand the realities of large-scale horticultural operations.
- Strong background in horticulture, agronomy, floriculture or greenhouse crops
- Experience working in large-scale commercial greenhouse operations
- Experience working with crop monitoring, scouting systems and analysis-based cultivation
- Ability to interpret analyses and translate them into clear action plans
- Experience implementing structured growing methods and standardization
- Comfortable living and working internationally / remote environment
- Experience in roses is an advantage but not required
- Experience outside Europe or in emerging markets is a strong plus
- Pragmatic mindset with focus on execution, consistency and results
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture or related field
