In Kenya, Biyinzika Poultry Kenya Limited has started a fast-paced greenfield operation to enter the Kenyan market.
The role
Leopard Recruitment and Biyinzika Poultry Kenya Limited are looking for a dynamic and entrepreneurial Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function of their new Kenyan integrated broiler poultry start-up.
This is a high-impact role in a fast-paced greenfield operation, where you will drive revenue growth, build market share from the ground up and establish sustainable commercial systems in a competitive Kenyan market.
As Commercial Manager you combine strong commercial skills with an entrepreneurial mindset. You identify opportunities, take calculated risks, innovate sales approaches and scale the business rapidly. This whilst being highly tech-savvy and data-driven. You make evidence-based decisions that optimize margins, efficiency and customer satisfaction across an integrated broiler value chain covering hatchery, feed mill, grow-out processing and distribution.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of the Kenyan commercial strategy, including market entry, customer acquisition, pricing, distribution channels and brand positioning in a start-up environment.
- Drive aggressive sales growth for broiler products (live birds, processed meat, by-products) to achieve/exceed volume, revenue, and margin targets.
- Build and manage key customer relationships (wholesalers, retailers, supermarkets, institutional buyers, exporters) across Kenya, with a focus on long-term partnerships and credit risk management.
- Identify market opportunities, emerging trends and competitive gaps in the Kenyan poultry sector and act entrepreneurially to launch new initiatives, pilot innovations (e.g., value-added products, direct-to-consumer models) and pivot quickly based on performance.
- Oversee the full commercial supply chain coordination, ensuring seamless integration from production to delivery, while minimizing costs and waste in a start-up setup.
- Develop and manage annual commercial budgets, forecasts and pricing models, with a strong focus on profitability and cash flow in the early growth phase.
- Lead, mentor and recruit a high-performing commercial team (sales representatives, marketing, logistics) as the operation scales.
- Champion a data-driven culture: implement and utilize digital tools, CRM systems, analytics platforms, and performance dashboards to track KPIs (e.g., sales conversion, FCR impact on costs, customer retention, market share), generate insights, and inform real-time decisions.
- Collaborate closely with operations, finance, and Ugandan counterparts to align strategies, share best practices and support cross-border efficiencies.
- Ensure compliance with Kenyan regulatory requirements (e.g., food safety, trade, veterinary standards) while embedding biosecurity and quality in commercial processes.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and macroeconomic factors in Kenya to proactively adapt strategies.
Candidate profile
- 5+ years of progressive commercial/sales experience, ideally in agribusiness, FMCG, livestock/poultry, or integrated food operations. Experience in poultry is highly advantageous.
- Proven track record in sales leadership, business development, and achieving targets in competitive or emerging markets.
- Experience in a start-up, greenfield, or high-growth environment is strongly preferred, demonstrating entrepreneurial initiative and resilience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Agribusiness, Animal Science, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
- Leadership and team-building capabilities with a hands-on approach suitable for start-up dynamics.
- Knowledge of East African markets (Kenya preferred), including local customer preferences, distribution logistics, and regulatory landscape.
